3D Environmental display - Store Shelves

When tasked with crafting an environmental design for CosmoBites, I set out with a clear vision in mind: create a shelf display that seamlessly weaves the allure of space with the elegance of modern minimalism. As always, I was eager to harness the power of AI to aid in this design endeavor.

One of the intriguing possibilities that emerged was the potential integration of ChatGPT with advanced 3D software like Blender and Maya. The idea was captivating: to convert user prompts into Python scripts through ChatGPT, which could then come to life within these 3D platforms. However, a stumbling block appeared early on — the available plugins for this process were tailored for Windows, leaving me, a Mac user, on the sidelines.

However, after reviewing its use cases - the tool was able to process simple commands but struggled with anything more complex.

Additionally, rather than manually entering and repeating the same commands every time, many individuals have turned to ChatGPT for assistance with creating plugins. This not only saves time but also ensures a more streamlined and personalized workflow in the 3D modelling software.

Moving on, I leaned on Midjourney once again, to help shape the look and feel of the shelf design through some inspiration. It was especially handy in making sure everything felt right at home with CosmoBites' space theme.

Midjourney generated pictures - prompt 'minimal product design display, space-themed, dark blue on white'.

With plenty of inspiration in mind I began modelling in Maya and created thematic store display going well with the brand identity.

Then came the challenge of texture. A design's look and feel can hinge on its texture. I tried out AI tools like Poly.Cam and Texture Lab, hoping they'd make this step a breeze. But they fell short. The designs looked a bit too cartoon-like for what I had in mind. And while they did okay with simple textures, they struggled with the more detailed ones.

The limitations of these AI tools were particularly evident considering the often-extensive process associated with manual texture sourcing. The pursuit of highly specific textures can be labour-intensive, highlighting the potential advantages that effective AI tools could have offered in this context.

After manually finding or creating textures I have used Substance Painter for final results.
