Dinner in Space - Event Poster

In the world of graphic design, there's always a thrill in capturing the essence of a brand in a single poster. When CosmoBites and this brief presented me with the challenge of designing an event poster for their unique "Dinner in Space" occasion, I knew a distinct design direction was paramount.

Searching for inspiration in the vast sea of online designs, I noticed a lack of minimalistic space-themed posters. This led me to revisit Midjourney, a tool I've turned to previously. Although it had its quirks—especially with text—it played a pivotal role in guiding potential design directions and gave a plenty of good inspiration.

When it came to the design itself, consistency was key. I anchored my strategy around CosmoBites' established brand elements. By weaving in familiar cosmic imagery—like planets, stars, and comets—the poster became a vibrant reflection of the brand. Pairing this with CosmoBites' signature monochrome colour palette ensured the design maintained its sleek, minimalistic feel.

But a poster isn't just about visuals; it's a message. The challenge lay in balancing essential event information with the minimalist design aesthetic. After some deliberation, I streamlined the text to the basics: event name, date, venue, and a nudge to the brand's website for more details. This approach not only grabbed attention but also directed curious minds to explore deeper details on CosmoBites' site.



 

Reflecting on this particular design, it's evident that design is as much about the journey as the final product. While the poster might not have seen real-world application, the process of its creation was a profound learning experience. It underscored the importance of brand consistency, the challenges of balancing aesthetics with information, and the ever-evolving dynamics of design in the digital age.

Brainstorming The initial phase of brainstorming led me to ChatGPT. By feeding the AI the entire organized brief, it managed to produce some intriguing concepts, such as rocket launch and the planet infusion idea. While these served as an excellent foundation, the AI's capacity to switch rapidly between varied concepts - a critical facet of brainstorming - was found wanting. Nevertheless, I found value in these AI-generated ideas, using them as foundational stones for further development.   Mindmapping For the mind mapping phase, I turned to an AI tool named MyMap (MyMap.ai, 2023), which promotes AI-driven conversations in a 2D map format with branching capabilities.  Human feedback When diving deep into the world of AI-driven design, I've been amazed at the capabilities of machines. But as I had dabbled with AI-generated presentations and even simulated client feedback in previous step of this graphic design process, they had their limitations and it became clear that genuine human feedback was irreplaceable, especially when refining design concepts. So, for this critical stage, I decided to go old school and I chose to gather direct feedback from real people that would into the imaginary company's target audience - millennials and Gen Z, aged between 18 and 35, of all genders - adventurous, open-minded, enjoy trying new experiences, and are health-conscious .
